The task was to design a magazine cover and spread for an article exploring the oppression of journalism and its impact on freedom of speech. A burning newspaper was selected as the central image for the spread, symbolizing how censorship and oppression destroy free expression by literally "burning" the words. This same imagery was carried onto the cover to create a strong visual link to the article. Additional global events relevant to the magazine’s theme, such as the crisis in Sudan and the ongoing violence in Mexico, were also highlighted. For the article’s body text, a lightweight version of the Avenir typeface was used to enhance readability, while the magazine title was set in the sans-serif DIN Condensed to emphasize the gravity of the topic. On the cover, American Typewriter was chosen for the magazine’s name to evoke a sense of traditional journalism while maintaining a serious tone. Helvetica was used for its boldness to create contrast against the background imagery.
