The challenge was to create an artistic skateboard series under the name TypeDeck, inspired by the stroke and structure of typographic letterforms. The concept involved designing a set of skateboard patterns using characters from four distinct typefaces (Zapfino, Cooper Black, Gutenberg), including the one used in the TypeDeck logo (BlueSakura). For each design, a single character was selected, enlarged, and randomly placed over a square. The character was then subtracted from the square to form an abstract shape. This abstract square was duplicated and flipped both vertically and horizontally to create a larger square composed of four smaller, mirrored elements. The resulting pattern was then repeated to fill the bottom portion of the skateboard deck. This process was applied to each typeface, resulting in a cohesive yet varied series that celebrated the expressive potential of typographic form.
